Marzeppa

"Zeppa" is an eight-year old warmblood gelding. He had suffered a traumatic injury to his shoulder that resulted in a radial nerve paralysis of his left front leg.

Zeppa's radiographs, MRI and ultrasound all were clean and based on this his prognosis is good. However, he needed carpal support throughout his rehabilitation. We fashioned a custom made carpus brace for Zeppa using bilateral stainless steel uprights with lockout joints. This way his leg is supported, but the locks on the uprights can be opened without removing the brace. This would allow for him to easily transition between stall rest and rehabilitation exercises.

After spending three weeks in a hospital with the standard PVC pipe and bandages, Zeppa was able to go home in just three days after receiving his brace. Zeppa's video shows him walking without support, and then walking down the hall wearing his brace.
