Satchi

Satchi is a three-year old golden retriever that needed to have her left hind leg amputated because of cancer. Unfortunately, her opposing leg has a suspected ruptured ligament that would make sole weight-baring very difficult, if not impossible for her.

We are currently trying to assist her veterinarian in fabrication of a prosthetic for her, but there are two complications: (1) the residual limb is a little short, and (2) she lives in Spain. We will keep you posted on how she does.

Update: January 2002. Satchi has been working with her first temporary prosthetic and done quite a bit of traveling. She has now moved from Spain to England and is ready to start working on her final prosthesis. Satchi's owner reports she is doing well with her prosthetic, but slips out of the socket from time to time. This is not unusual because muscle mass will atrophy and then the socket becomes loose. We will be starting the rebuilding process and are hoping for more pictures soon!
